La maison natale de Giuseppe Verdi est la maison-auberge de Roncole (devenu depuis Roncole Verdi), un hameau situé à faible distance de la ville de Busseto dans la province de Parme (région Émilie-Romagne) en Italie, où est né, le 10 octobre 1813, le compositeur Giuseppe Verdi.
La maison natale de Verdi se présente comme « une maison pauvre, basse et longue, un peu de guingois » entourée d’une poignée de petits bâtiments et dans laquelle « est palpable le sens de la vie simple de ce temps-là, l’empreinte de la fatigue, de la pauvreté digne ».
To mark the first centenary of the death of Giuseppe Verdi, the Emilia-Romagna Region, together with AICER and IBC, promoted the realization of this video for the exhibition titled Restoring Verdi’s places – from Roncole to Sant’Agata via Busseto.
The video aims to give back the surroundings and the panoramas experienced and loved by Verdi, using a series of virtual reconstructions, digitally drawn from original documents: photos, drawings, plans, cadastral maps and old printings.
The video runs along the main stages of an ideal Verdi route: the birthplace at Roncole di Busseto, that was also shop and tavern, Busseto, where Verdi spent his childhood and adolescence, the countryside and the surroundings, Villa Verdi at Sant’Agata and its garden, bought in 1848, when, well-known and rich, he decided to come back to his home land.
From these privileged points of view, stories of the Maestro and events and vicissitudes of the surroundings are told with the live comment of professor Pier Luigi Cervellati, curator of the restoration of Roncole and Sant’Agata and planner of the mentioned exhibition. Verdi himself attended with passion and meticulousness the construction of his villa, the design of the park, the arrangement of his estate. He spent the rest of his life here, in spite of frequent travels. Many rooms of Villa Verdi, nowadays occupied by the Maestro’s heirs, have been left exactly as they were.
The birthplace and Villa Verdi at Sant’Agata represent the most symbolical places of Verdi’s geography in Emilia-Romagna but a further constellation of places and surroundings are still living in the mark and in the memory of the great composer.
